The Initial Consultation
The design process begins with an initial consultation by appointment only and lasts approximately 1 hour. Ideally this should be anything from 18 – 6 months ahead of your wedding. During this friendly, personal consultation you can discuss your plans for your special day and any ideas you may have for your dress from style, colour, fabric, and details of any design features which you would like to incorporate into your dream wedding gown. It is a good idea to try on different shaped dresses before your consultation and to bring along any magazine cuttings. This consultation is free of charge with no obligation.
I will create an illustrated sketch of your dress design, based on the details agreed upon during the initial consultation, for your feedback. Working together we can make changes to finalise the design at which point an indicative estimate will be given, which will be confirmed in writing if you choose to place the order.
Measurements & Pattern Creation
Every garment is individually made to measure and fitted to perfection. Detailed body measurements are taken in order to create a pattern for your dress. We will also discuss the choice of shoes and bridal lingerie as these can have an effect on how the wedding gown will fit and should be obtained as soon as possible to wear at subsequent fittings.
Toile & Prototype
A toile (mock up of the dress) will be made. This will be used to refine the design and fit of the gown.
Fitting & Refinements
The toile will require a number of fittings, the amount depending on the complexity of the design. Adjustments are made after each session and examples of any embellishments will be tried out and finalised during this process.
Making the Dress
Once the design and fit has been perfected on the toile the actual dress will be made from your chosen fabric. Further fittings will be required. When your garment is complete and ready for collection you will need to attend for a final try-on with shoes, underwear and jewellery/veil etc. I will take photographs at this fitting for my portfolio. Completion is normally 2-4 weeks in advance of your wedding. I include a free garment cover for you to take the wedding outfit away in.
Samples – If embroidery or beadwork decoration are part of the design, samples may be worked to help ensure the dress looks as you imagined and allows for the development of the design. These samples remain my property. A photo of your wedding dress on the day would also be appreciated for inclusion in my completed portfolio.
