Commission

The following shows wedding dresses I have been commissioned to make for various clients for their special occasions and some testimonials.

It is always lovely and much appreciated to receive photos of you wearing your wedding dresses on the day and I would love to be able to feature your dress on this page. Not only is it nice for me to get feedback from you but it also helps future brides to see what I can do and hear of your experience.

Jemima

The Design

Jemima's dress was very floaty using a soft crepe and chiffon for the full skirt and fitted bodice. She then chose a gorgeous lace for the waist details which was also incorporated into the very detailed back design. The chiffon sleeves were finished off with a lace cuff and button fastening

Bridesmaids & Mum

I also had the pleasure of designing and making three bridesmaids dresses in a beautiful willow green chiffon with silver satin lining. Then mum also had a dress using the same fabric as the bridesmaids but with an added printed silk organza overlay so that it toned in with the theme

Susie was simply fantastic. We knew we would go with her from the moment we stepped into her fitting room. She is very organised and detailed and goes to great lengths to ensure she can make your dress exactly the way you want it. She is a perfectionist who does things until they are done right. She is very talented as was able to create my wedding dress, 3 bridesmaid dresses and a mother of the bride dress to perfection. I was able
To find lace that I wanted and a beautiful colour for my bridesmaids because Susie had such a variety of materials and patterns to pick from. She was friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend her

Clare

The Design

Clare was getting married in Italy and wanted an illusion lace bodice and a full skirt with lace detail on the train of the dress. Long lace sleeves which she wanted to be able to take off in the evening

The Couture Package

Clare definitely wanted a boat neck front but was a little undecided on the neckline for the back. Using my mix and match tops and skirts we were able to finalise the silhouette she was after. Then all we needed to do was make her dress using a sift satin and delicate lace

I cannot recommend Susie enough! I had the best experience having my dress made by her and thoroughly enjoyed the whole process.
Susie is so knowledgeable and has such attention to detail. And incredibly patient.

Thank you Susie for making my dream dress!

Karenza

The Design

Karenza had a very clear idea of the sort of style she wanted from the soft shoulder frills to the dramatic swooping skirt

Fabric

We used a beautiful Mikado fabric as it was fairly stiff and had a lovely grain detail in the fabric without being too shiny. I used a crinoline net to help stiffen the skirt structure. The shoulder frills were made from a soft gathered tulle

Review

Loved Susie, so easy to work with and very helpful in all suggestions on design and technical improvements for the dress... she regularly made contact with me throughout the whole process, in person and on email which made progress communications straight forward and hassle free. She also was very committed to working around my tight deadlines and is very well priced for such a gorgeous handmade, bespoke wedding dress. I was so happy with the outcome and would happily recommend her to anyone!

About Susie Grist Couture

The Design

Grace didn't want a typical mother of bride outfit but knew she wanted a lace top with bardot collar and palazzo pants for her daughter's wedding in Ireland

The fabrics

She decided on a soft shade of blue and we found a satin and chiffon that worked well together along with a gorgeous beaded lace for the bodice and added some motives to the side hem of the trousers to tie it all together

Review

I moved from Surrey in January and my daughters wedding is in August.  I found Susie's website and her reviews were amazing. I didn't want a typical Mother of the bride outfit, and from the moment I met Susie she just got it. Calm, lovely and very very talented. I picked my outfit up last week and have shown it to a few friends. They, like me, are just blown away. Susie is just simply amazing. Talented, artistic, empathetic and just a very calming person. She added touches that have made the outfit and I would never have thought of. Her communication to me was also second to none. Her prices were also not outrageous. I was very nervous in January about finding the right outfit, but I'm now going to make my daughter proud, and that's all down to Susie. Thank you from the bottom of my heart xxx

Amanda

An Heirloom Dress

Amanda wanted to use her mum's silk wedding dress from the 1990's for her wedding but it needed a bit of modernisation and there were quite a few bad stains down a large section of the front skirt that would need to be removed. It also need a bit of tlc after being stored in a box for 30yrs.

The bodice fitted perfectly and Amanda wanted to keep this as it was. We removed the sleeves to give it a modern feel. I completely removed the skirt and took out half of the front section that had the stains. I then re-modelled the skirt to have a flat front instead of gathers and added pleats at the back to help keep the volume but make it lay flatter. There was also a big bow on the original dress which was removed

Review

Susie remodelled my mother's wedding dress so I could wear it for my wedding, and she did a wonderful job! From the initial consultation where we discussed ideas and options, to the final appointment when I could try on the finished dress, every time I saw Susie was a lovely experience. She really listened to me and understood what I wanted, and the result was a beautiful dress which fit perfectly, with amazing attention to detail - even with specially made buttons to match the originals perfectly. Thank you Susie for all your hard work!

Review From Mum

Susie transformed my 1990s silk wedding dress for my daughter to wear. Susie absolutely took on board what my daughter wanted, nothing was too much trouble. The result was stunning and Susie was such a pleasure to deal with - probably the least stressful aspect of all the wedding arrangements!

Polly

A Rainbow Wedding Dress

Polly loves colour and wanted to incorporate colour into her wedding dress so we decided on a rainbow theme.

She wanted a fitted bodice with an illusion back and a full skirt with a bit of a train. She was going to be riding her horse and wanted the train to cover the back of the horse. She also wanted some lace to add the delicate brida touch

Fabrics

The base dress was made from a cappuccino coloured satin and then rainbow tulle was pleated over the front bodice and gathered into a full skirt. A further blush tulle circular skirt was added to give extra volume. Rainbow embroidered lace and bead motives were then added to the bodice front and back illusion tulle and finally beaded floral lace trim added to the front hem and bodice neckline

Review

Susie made a bespoke multi-coloured wedding dress for my daughter's wedding along with matching waistcoats for the groom; father of the bride and the bride's two year old son. From the first contact with Susie through to picking up the dress we received a professional service from someone who clearly takes a lot of pride in her work. Nothing was ever too much trouble and she was happy to accommodate all out requests and changes. I can't recommend Susie highly enough

Michaela

The Design

Michaela wanted a black wedding dress and was having trouble finding the dress of her dreams. She had a basic style in mind but just couldn't find it in black

The Fabrics

We created the bodice with spaghetti straps using black satin and a beautiful black lace with very small flowers some of which were highlighted in silver. We added a full gathered black satin and tulle skirt with a train to give that princess feel

Review

I looked everywhere for the wedding dress of my dreams, I was given susie details & contacted her.
She was professional, caring & really did listen to every detail & idea of mine.
I can only speak highly of susie & her work she made my dreams come true with the dress of my dreams.

Everyone asked where I got my dress from? But when I said it was handmade they were shocked that it really was don’t to perfection & a high standard.

Susie thank you again so so much you are just truly amazing

Natasha

Maid of Honour

I made Natasha's stunning wedding dress and cape a few years ago, which you can see further down this page, so when she contacted me again about making a dress to be maid of honour for her sister-in-law I couldn't wait to work with here again

After looking around at various styles there were a couple of elements that she wanted to include in her dress.  So with these in mind I created this

Grecian style summer dress

The Design

The style was very soft and floaty made from gorgeous soft pink crepe and chiffon fabrics. It had a one shoulder feature with pleats allowing the fabric to fall in soft folds down the dress creating volume. The cape sleeve helps to create a more floaty and stunning element to the dress.  She looks absolutely stunning as always

Review

I could not recommend Susie enough for her tremendous work! In fact I have already recommended her to a friend, as I wouldn't go anywhere else. This is not my first time having Susie create something wonderful for me. She made my wedding dress back in 2018, which was absolutely beautiful and exactly what I wanted. I was then maid of honour for my sister in law in the summer. Having a few options in my mind (I liked two styles of Reiss dresses and wished they could merge into one!) neither were perfect. I contacted Susie again who was brilliant. She completely understood what I liked about one dress and what I liked about the other. She made me a stunning Grecian style summer bridesmaids dress, that was perfect. It was modern and just what I wanted! Made to a much higher standard than the originals. I had so many compliments that day, not that it was about me! Susie is talented, hardworking and more than reasonable. She really is the best, and this won't be the last time I call on her for her expertise

Suzi

The Design

When Suzi came to see me about making her wedding dress she had a bit of an idea of the style she wanted.

By trying on my mix and match sample tops and skirts to was able to finalise the right silhouette for her

Purple Wedding Dress

When Lynne got in touch asking if I could make her a purple wedding dress, my favourite colour, how could I refuse

The Couture Package

She wanted a swing style dress as they were learning a swing dance routine for their first dance.

We decided it would be fun to make the petticoat in a teal colour to tie in with the bridesmaids

The Bridesmaids

She decided to go for a range of jewel colours for her bridesmaid dresses and we managed to find the exact fabric colours for her to send to her bridesmaids to get their dresses made locally to them

Don't they look fabulous together

Sybill

The Dress

Sybill knew she wanted a high low hem to the skirt which needed to be soft and swishy so we made this from a soft satin overlayed with chiffon

The Details

Being a petite frame the empire line bodice worked perfectly which was made from the ivory satin overlayed with sequinned lace with a v-neckline and had a full sleeve

"I had already purchase a gown but could not fall in love with it even though it was exactly what I thought I wanted, Suzie very quickly identified it was the wrong fabric and did not fall right and the wrong colour for my skin tone. She very quickly selected fabrics, colours and style and made the most beautiful gown to complement my curves and colours. Everyone commented on how beautiful my dress is/was and i felt a million dollars on the day, so comfortable and swishy, sparkling yet sophisticated. Complex in some areas yet plain in others . I could not recommend Suzie and her skills highly enough. "

Erica

The Design

Erica's dress design changed slightly throughout the making process until we had the perfect style

Mums hands doing up button fastening on daughters wedding dress

The Dress

The bodice had a blousson chiffon top to give the floaty diaphanous feel, with a fitted crepe satin under bodice to create shape, with a boat shaped neckline and lace sleeves to match the skirt. It fastened with delicate covered buttons at the back.

For the skirt she went for a  slightly fitted column shape made from crepe satin  with a gorgeous beaded Guipure lace over layer. The waistband was finished off with a beautiful crystal and pearl trim

Susie did a fantastic job in making my wedding dress. She was creative, endlessly patient and the final result was a beautiful dress. Her attention to detail is second to none and she made the whole process enjoyable I highly recommend anyone who wants a bespoke wedding dress to contact Susie and I am sure you will not be disappointed

Silk Skirt

Amy found her gorgeous silk chiffon Catherine Deane skirt but wanted it changed slightly. We made the underskirt fuller and added a small net petticoat to hold the skirt out and we also distribute the gathers evenly around the waist

Lace And Satin Bodice

The next stage was to make a satin bodice with a sweetheart neckline and a v-neck lace overlay, with low back to attach to the skirt waistband to complete the dress

Susie did an absolutely fantastic job of making my wedding dress earlier this year! I had found a sample Catherine Deane silk chiffon wedding skirt, which I loved, and was hoping to have a lace bodice made to turn it into a dress. After meeting Susie, I knew she was the person to do it - she completely understood what I had in mind and was really helpful, responsive and willing to accommodate every adjustment I asked for, no matter how small. She also did a brilliant job of altering the dresses for my two bridesmaids and is generally just a really lovely and friendly person to work with. My dress turned out even better than I could have imagined, thanks to Susie's incredible skill and vision, and was completely transformed from the original skirt that I brought to her. The quality of the finished dress was amazing and I was so thrilled to wear it for my wedding - I particularly loved swishing it around for our first dance! Thank you so much, Susie! :)

I loved working with this gorgeous bride in making her amazing dress and cape. She had a very clear vision of what she wanted.

The dress had simple clean lines to show off the cape

"Susie was incredible I knew from the word go she totally understood what I wanted for my wedding dress. I wanted something different a long silky gown and floor length cape with powerful shoulder pads! And Susie did just that. It was so great to see it in all of the stages. Never once did she try to change the original concept and showed real enthusiasm to do something a bit different. I went to one dress shop on the high street and it just wasn’t for me. As soon as I met Susie I felt full of confidence that she would be able to make the dress. I was so thrilled with the outcome it looked like something off the run way. I am just thinking of what she could make for me next. Susie is incredibley efficient, hard working and passionate about your dress. I couldn’t recommend her enough."
