The Wedding Dress design process begins with an initial consultation by appointment only at my studio in Abingdon Oxford and lasts approximately 2 hours. Ideally this should be anything from 8 months – 1 year ahead of your wedding. During this friendly, personal consultation you can discuss your plans for your special day and any ideas you may have for your dress from style, colour, fabric, and details of any design features which you would like to incorporate into your dream wedding dress. This consultation is free of charge with no obligation.
If you are not sure what style or shape of wedding dress will suit you then do not worry as I have a range of different styled tops and skirts that you can try on and mix and match to create your perfect silhouette.
I will create a sketch of your bespoke designer wedding dress design based on the details agreed upon and an estimate will be given based on the fabric options looked at during the consultation. If you decide to go ahead with the order a first payment will need to be paid to book the space in the diary.
Every garment is individually made to measure and fitted to perfection. Detailed body measurements are taken in order to create a pattern for your dress. We will also discuss the choice of shoes and bridal lingerie as these can have an effect on how the wedding dress will fit and should be obtained as soon as possible to wear at subsequent fittings.
A toile (mock up of the dress) will be made. This will be used to refine the design and fit of the wedding dress.
The toile will require a number of fittings, the amount depending on the complexity of the design. Adjustments are made after each session and examples of any embellishments will be tried out and finalised during this process.
Once the design and fit of the toile has been perfected it is time to choose the fabric you would like to have your wedding dress made from. I have a vast selection of satin, silk, mikado, lace and even eco fabrics for you to choose from. There will be something to suit all tastes and I will be there to help guide you through.
At this stage your next instalment for the cost of the fabric will be due and once this is paid and the fabric ordered in I can then continue the process of making your gorgeous wedding dress.
A few more fittings will be required to finalise your garment. When your dress is complete and ready for collection you will be invited to attend a final try-on session at my studio in Abingdon with shoes and underwear. Completion is normally 2-4 weeks in advance of your wedding. I include a free garment cover for you to take the wedding dress away in.
If embroidery or beadwork decoration are part of the design, samples may be worked to help ensure the dress looks as you imagined.
It is always lovely and much appreciated to receive photos of you wearing your wedding dress on the day and may be used in my portfolio, website and social media.
